A tragic incident unfolded on New Year's Eve in Whitpain Township, Pennsylvania, where a vehicle collision resulted in the deaths of two elderly women, and left another seriously injured. According to NBC Philadelphia, the crash occurred on Butler Pike near Skippack Pike around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The report from NBC Philadelphia specifies that a 31-year-old male driver from Springfield, Delaware County, was behind the wheel of a gray Jeep Cherokee when the vehicle struck the three women as they were crossing the road.
All involved were immediately transported to the hospital, sadly, an 82-year-old woman from Horsham Township, and a 79-year-old woman from Southampton, Bucks County, succumbed to their injuries, reports PHL17. The third victim, an 80-year-old woman from Warrington, Bucks County, survived, though her condition has not been disclosed. The driver remained at the scene, and is said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the authorities.
The roadway where the incident took place was closed for a number of hours following the crash, before reopening later. The names of the victims have not been released as the police are continuing their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the most grievous event. The Whitpain Township Police Department is asking for anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer George Frost at 610-279-9033, as stated by NBC Philadelphia.
