
A collision occurred Monday morning when a vehicle struck a CapMetro train in central Austin, causing temporary disruptions in rail services. The crash took place near Koenig Lane, as confirmed by Yahoo News, resulting in CapMetro implementing bus service for affected passengers between the MLK and McKalla stations.
The Austin Police Department, responding before the slow-creeping hands of rush hour could tighten their grip, was called to the scene at the railroad crossing on East Koenig Lane shortly before 8:30 a.m. No injuries were sustained in the incident, a fact that belied the jarring images of the scene shared by CapMetro on social media, including a photograph capturing the aftermath—a broken crossing arm and the mangled husk of a vehicle.
During the incident, CapMetro took to social media to alert commuters at 9:15 a.m. of the ensuing rail delays. CBS Austin notes that the company actively provided updates and mitigated inconvenience by providing buses to ferry travelers between the disrupted route links.
