On Thursday afternoon, a tense situation unfolded at Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park, prompting a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies. According to a CBS Austin report, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a "shoot/stab hotshot" call at the Lakeline Mall at approximately 4:19 p.m. The incident was clarified to be an isolated event and not an active shooter situation.
Details emerged from a FOX 7 Austin coverage that a dispute between two groups in the mall's food court escalated, resulting in a shot being fired. Despite the momentary chaos, APD Chief Lisa Davis confirmed in a press conference, "However, no one was hurt and there is no ongoing threat to the community." APD has yet to make any arrests, as the investigation is ongoing and the mall was to be shut down for the remainder of Thursday night.
In the aftermath of the incident, the mall was placed on lockdown, and authorities coordinated to escort patrons out of the building safely. Austin police released a statement requesting the public's assistance, asking anyone with photos or video of the incident to share them through a provided link. Meanwhile, Austin Travis County EMS had not located any patients by 5 p.m. and continued to search the mall with rescue task forces. Families looking to reunite with loved ones were directed to gather at Savers at 11101 Pecan Park Boulevard.
Witness accounts from the scene described the moment the shot was fired. A store manager spoke to FOX 7 Austin's Rudy Koski, recounting that he heard a "loud bang" and witnessed a surge of people running. Additionally, a witness told FOX 7 Austin, "one of the guys got the better of the other guy and pulled out a gun and let it off," painting a brief but vivid picture of the altercation. As authorities continue to piece together events, Austin police have emphasized there is not an active threat to the community and are rigorously conducting their follow-up investigations.
