Responding to the distress of citizens grappling with the aftermath of the disaster, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has reached out to FEMA, vying for additional support. In a recent announcement, he petitioned FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to prolong the existing Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program—the safety net for many inhabitants facing the upheaval of reconstruction.
Stein's letter addresses the elemental need for secure housing through the colder months as these communities labor to rebuild what was lost. "The people of western North Carolina are experiencing chaos and uncertainty that is untenable," Stein remarked in a statement, according to an official release. He further emphasized, "That is why I am urging FEMA to extend its Transitional Sheltering Assistance program for six months to get folks through the winter in safe, secure shelter as they rebuild their homes.."
The TSA program serves as an essential provision, granting temporary housing to those displaced by natural calamities. This extension would offer a semblance of stability, allowing North Carolinians a vital respite to shore up their lives amidst ongoing adversities.
