Earlier this morning, Route 97 in Howard County witnessed a somber tableau after a three-vehicle collision resulted in the death of one man and injured four others, effectively shutting down the thoroughfare for approximately five hours. The crash, which involved a 2004 Honda Pilot, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, and a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse, occurred near Roxbury Road, according to information from FOX Baltimore.
The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. with the Honda Pilot traveling north and crossing the centerline, a move that precipitated a tragic chain of events. In the ensuing collision, a passenger in the Honda was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger faced critical injuries and were rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, reported WUSA9. A second rear passenger in the Honda also suffered injuries, though they were not described as severe.
Occupants of the other vehicles involved experienced varying degrees of harm. Two individuals in the Chevrolet Silverado were transported to Carroll Hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Traverse's occupants emerged with no serious injuries.
As investigators flooded the scene, the bustling Route 97 came to a complete halt, its flow stopped by the weight of tragedy and investigation.
