A well-known Orlando eatery, College Park Cafe, is looking to turn the page following a Christmas Eve fire. This setback came after the cafe, which has been a fixture in the community for over seven decades, already faced financial struggles earlier in the year, including taking out a loan to stay afloat, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.

The fire added to a string of challenges for the historic diner, but the owners are determined to keep the doors open. "We were running into financial difficulties. It got really bad, and we had to take out a loan to keep going. Then after the fire, we were talking and wondering if this was a higher power’s way of telling us it might be time to let it go," owner Alan Saunders stated, as per ClickOrlando. Despite the gravity of these challenges, there's a sense of tenacity and hope as they eye a reopening by the end of the month.

A surge of community support has also buoyed the cafe, with over $3,000 being raised on a GoFundMe page to assist the staff during the downtime. "Bills don’t stop because the paycheck stops coming," server Tiffany Vanderbilt, as ClickOrlando reported, expressing gratitude for the financial lifeline provided by the fundraising efforts.

Amidst cleaning up and renovations, there's also a new aesthetic on the horizon for the cafe, with Saunders revealing plans for updated interiors, "New floors, new walls, new electric, new plumbing and new appliances. So, we’re excited," he shared with FOX 35 Orlando. The cafe is also slated to debut with a new name and logo in its fresh start for 2025.
