Residents of Philadelphia and its surrounding areas are bracing for a day of blustery weather as the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ, has issued a wind advisory that remains in effect throughout the New Year's Day. According to the NWS forecast, west winds are expected to reach speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with the potential for powerful gusts peaking at 45 to 50 mph.
The advisory, which highlights a forecast including patchy fog lifting before 7 am and transitioning into a partly sunny sky with high temperatures cresting at 47 degrees, is also accompanied by a caution for the evening, as the clear skies will see temperatures drop to around 32 degrees and winds remaining strong, but after the gusty day, the rest of the week seems to display a more stable pattern with sunny to partly sunny conditions and high temperatures hovering around 40 degrees, except for an announcement that looking ahead to Monday, there's a 40% chance of snow, as per the National Weather Service.
Particularly alarmed should be drivers of high profile vehicles and residents with unsecured outdoor objects—these are expected to be the most affected by the wind advisory. "Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," as detailed by NWS.
