A grim tableau unfolded in Philadelphia's Parkside neighborhood where a double shooting claimed the life of a 56-year-old man and injured another, as reported by FOX 29. Police, having arrived on the scene at approximately 8:41 p.m., found the two victims in a residence on the 4100 block of Leidy Avenue. The 56-year-old resident succumbed to two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was pronounced dead shortly after at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Another 45-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and is reported to be in stable condition.
In the ongoing investigation, Philadelphia police indicated they have a strong lead on a suspect, as divulged by 6ABC. A tragic turn of events followed when an officer, arriving to offer aid, was bitten by a dog at the scene. The officer's partner was then forced to fatally shoot the attacking animal to prevent further harm. This ancillary incident is also to be scrutinized, falling in line with department policy upon the use of firearms by an officer.
Additional details were provided by NBC Philadelphia, noting that the two spent shell casings found on the sidewalk and another on the front porch, signified the occurrence of the shooting outside the property. Witnesses purportedly have information regarding the identity of the shooter and an accompanying woman who fled the scene, though official names have not been released.
Authorities are asking anyone with further information to step forward and contact the police at 215-686-TIPS.
