In recognition of Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the authorities are taking to social media to spotlight the severity of human trafficking and to offer ways for the public to intervene. According to a post by the Plano Texas Police Department, they define the crime is the exploitation of individuals through force, fraud, or coercion for forced labor or commercial sex. Traffickers are known to exploit the vulnerabilities of their victims, often through violence, manipulation, or deceitful promises of employment or relationships.
The grim reality is that over 27.6 million people, including adults and children, globally find themselves trapped in these dehumanizing situations, and it's a crisis that does not spare the U.S. The Plano Texas Police Department urges the public to watch for signs of human trafficking vigilantly and to act to help save lives swiftly. The National Human Trafficking Hotline is reachable at 1-888-373-7888 or by texting "HELP" or "INFO" to 233733.
Additional support and resources can be found through local services like Mosaic Family Services and New Friends New Life, and reports to Federal Law Enforcement can be made at 1-866-347-2423.
