A tragic collision on Auburn Road in Pontiac has resulted in the death of a 52-year-old man, following a crash that involved a stopped vehicle and a street-side tree. CBS News Detroit reports that the accident occurred around 6 p.m. last Friday when the man, driving a Dodge Ram, collided with a Chevrolet Blazer that was stopped at a red light near South Francis and South Sanford Streets.

The sheriff's office indicated the Dodge Ram went on to hit a crosswalk signal pole and a tree before coming to rest in a nearby field, the events unfolded rapidly as the Pontiac man lost control after striking the stopped vehicle. According to WWJ Newsradio, the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, meanwhile, the 69-year-old woman driving the Blazer was not injured and had been wearing her seatbelt.

While the factors leading to this fatal incident are still being pieced together by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, authorities suggest a "medical event" may have been a contributing cause. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a part in the crash, and the investigation continues to shed light on the precise cause. ClickOnDetroit states the police believe the man may have experienced a "medical event" which could help explain why the vehicle failed to stop at the traffic signal and ultimately led to the unfortunate series of impacts that took his life.
