After years of uncertainty, the resolution comes bittersweet for a family in Metro Detroit. The remains of Kevin Graves, who was reported missing in 2018 after attending the Electric Forest Music Festival, have been identified. According to WWJ Newsradio, forensic anthropologists from Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine made the identification through dental record comparisons.
The discovery was made on Monday via social media. While the cause of death remains undetermined, Michigan State Police have indicated that there are no signs of foul play at the moment, leading to further investigation into the tragic outcome.
Graves was 28 years old at the time of his disappearance, last seen during an apparent argument with his girlfriend, and witnesses claimed to have seen him walking away from the campgrounds, reports ClickOnDetroit. The search efforts over the years included distributing fliers, and paying for a billboard near the festival grounds, alongside extensive searches by authorities and volunteers.
"Now that we have positive identification of the remains, at least the family has some closure on where he is, and now hopefully the next steps can determine what happened," Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated in a communication sourced by the Detroit Free Press. The Electric Forest Music Festival has been a staple in Rothbury since 2011, drawing tens of thousands of people annually to the 2,000-acre Double JJ Resort. Graves became part of the festival's history, in the most tragic and unforeseen way.
