A 17-year-old Saginaw teen is facing juvenile detention after attempting to stab a 43-year-old man at a local gas station. The incident, which occurred inside the Sunoco gas station at 1607 S. Michigan Ave. last Thursday, was reported as random and unprovoked. The teen allegedly tried to stab the man, causing minor injuries, before fleeing the scene. He turned himself in after surveillance video was shared on social media platforms, according to ABC12.

Details provided by WNEM reveal that the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. when the victim was at the front counter of the gas station. The assailant rapidly approached and attempted to stab the older man before fleeing. Although the victim sustained injuries, he did not seek medical treatment. Police quickly assured the public that there was no further threat from the suspect.

Further elaborating on the sequence of events that day, MLive reported that the teenager, described as wearing eyeglasses, a black hooded sweatshirt, and gray jeans, was captured on surveillance footage launching the unexpected attack. The victim briefly chased the assailant before both returned to the gas station, where the attacker ultimately fled the scene.

After the surveillance footage circulated on social media, and possibly due to the growing public awareness of the attack, the teenager surrendered to authorities yesterday. He was then lodged at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center pending charges. His identity has been withheld from the public while a decision is made on whether he will be charged as an adult, depending on the gravity of his actions and the charges ultimately filed against him.
