
On the Northeast Side of San Antonio, a man experienced tragic consequences in the early hours of Friday after attempting to use gasoline to light a backyard fire. The misuse of the accelerant resulted in him sustaining life-threatening injuries, with burns covering most of his body. The accident occurred in the 15900 block of Drexel Run, as reported by News4SanAntonio.
Details provided by authorities indicate the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. The man, upon being found by emergency teams in his backyard, was severely injured. According to information obtained by KENS 5, he was quickly taken to a local hospital.
The San Antonio Police Department has yet to release comprehensive details regarding this incident. However, they have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway. Meanwhile, safety officials want to remind the public about the dangers associated with irresponsible fire management.
In light of this incident, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission has issued guidelines for safely starting fires. Emphasized was the advisory, "You should never use gasoline to start a fire or re-start a fire—even if you think the fire isn’t ignited," which was revealed by KENS 5. It's also strongly recommended to only use proper starters before lighting a fire and avoid adding any liquid fuel after an initial attempt, to prevent "flame jetting."
