In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, San Antonio city officials have announced a holiday schedule for city services that will take effect on Monday. City Hall and the majority of municipal offices will be closed, however, essential services such as public safety and emergency services will remain fully operational.

For those needing assistance, the 3-1-1 Call Center is prepared to take calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and again from 5 to 11 p.m. to deal with urgent matters involving animal concerns, and traffic signal issues. Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services personnel will remain on duty to ensure the city's safety.

On the streets of downtown, visitors can take advantage of an on-street parking meter holiday. This exemption does not extend to off-street City-operated garages and lots, which will operate as usual. The City of San Antonio's parks and trails, ready for the public, will be open, albeit with limited Fitness in the Park classes being held.

As for waste collection and drop-off services, there will be no collections on the holiday itself, with all related facilities shutting their doors. The schedule will shift accordingly, with regular Monday garbage, recycling, and organics collections moving to Tuesday, and subsequent days being pushed back as well, culminating in Friday's collections occurring on Saturday. Normal operations for locations such as the Bitters Brush site and various waste drop-off centers resume on Tuesday, January 21.

Additional facilities and administrative offices like the Municipal Court magistration services and SAPD's detention center will keep their doors open, alongside La Villita and Market Square shops. Conversely, a host of other city services including public libraries, community centers, health clinics, and various administrative departments will close in recognition of the holiday.

With an eye to the potential of cold weather, the City reminds residents to stay informed and prepared for cold weather by protecting the Four Ps: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes. In case of hazardous weather conditions during the holiday, select locations may open as places to stay warm. More information, cold weather tips, and resources are available on the City of San Antonio's website, according to a statement obtained by the official city news releases.
