Fort Worth's West 7th entertainment area experienced moments of chaos on Sunday night as two men, after being denied entry to a bar, opened fire in the 2800 block of Bledsoe Street. According to a news release from the Fort Worth police, as per WFAA, the incident occurred at around 10 p.m. and no individuals were struck by the gunfire. Police believe that the shooters may have had a prior altercation with two patrons they targeted outside the bar.
As the suspects fled the scene, they crashed into a parked car and exchanged gunfire with off-duty officers working a part-time security job nearby. It was during this confrontation and subsequent pursuit that one suspect incurred a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. "No officers or civilians were seriously injured during the incident," Fort Worth police stated, as cited by WFAA.
The attempted getaway came to an abrupt halt after police utilized spike strips at the intersection of West Berry Street and South Henderson Street, effectively disabling the suspects' vehicle. FOX 4 News reported that the chase after the initial shooting led to the apprehension of both men, with further details about the chase provided by the responding off-duty officers.
One officer sustained injuries during the deployment of the spike strips and was treated at the scene. As to the suspects, the driver faces charges including evading arrest, collision with a parked vehicle, and five unrelated outstanding warrants, while the passenger is charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon upon a public servant. Despite the violence of these events, police have yet to release the identities of the two men involved.
