A high-speed police chase that tore through the streets of Metro Detroit came to a dramatic end when a Southfield man slammed his vehicle into a Berkley home this past weekend. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the incident began near Edwards and Greenfield when Berkley police tried to pull over a white Dodge Journey. The driver, identified as a 31-year-old Southfield resident, reportedly fled due to an outstanding warrant and lack of insurance.
Having careened through several communities, including Oak Park and Huntington Woods, the chase culminated in Berkley, with the individual losing control and crashing. According to the CBS News Detroit coverage, the driver attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended. Further investigation revealed he had cocaine and psilocybin mushrooms and may have been operating the vehicle under the influence of narcotics.
No injuries were reported despite the dramatic end to the chase, where dashcam footage, shared in a ClickOnDetroit report, captured the SUV hurtling into a residential structure. The Berkley Police Department is actively seeking charges against the man, which include fleeing and eluding, possession of controlled substances, and operating under the influence, with some charges potentially leading to felony convictions.
While the Berkley police are assisting the residents of the damaged home, the suspect has accumulated charges that could result in significant prison time. He was discovered, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit, to have multiple outstanding felony warrants out of Michigan and Georgia related to drug trafficking and theft. The official investigation into the circumstances of the chase and crash remains ongoing.
