Good news for Stanly County motorists—the bumpy rides along some of their main thoroughfares are on the brink of becoming history. The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $1.2 million contract to smooth out the rough patches on a combined stretch of 2.5 miles of road. The roads getting the facelift include segments of U.S. 52 in Albemarle, N.C. 742/205 in Oakboro, and Falls Road in Badin, easing the daily commute for many.
Local firm J.T. Russell & Sons Inc., rooted in the fabric of Albemarle, holds the contract and is slated to quickly begin work in April 2025. Drivers should look forward to wrapping up their construction-related adjustments by fall of 2026. Despite the temporary inconveniences, the long-term benefits promise to significantly ease up daily transportation for residents and visitors alike.
According to the N.C. DOT announcement, this project is more than just laying asphalt—it represents a commitment to maintaining the integrity of essential infrastructure in the region. It's just part and parcel of the ongoing efforts to ensure that North Carolina's roadways are safe, durable, and a pleasure to drive on.
