A New Year's Day standoff at a West Seattle Safeway ended with a man being taken into custody following several tense hours. The incident began when officers responded to a call about a violent assault on a female victim at the Safeway located on 28th Avenue Southwest, close to White Center, FOX 13 Seattle reported. Police arrived at the scene shortly after 10:12 a.m. to confront the situation.
The prolonged confrontation with the suspect unfolded inside the Safeway store as he initially refused to obey officers. This refusal led to a negotiation process that extended over several hours. Authorities eventually apprehended the suspect without further incidents after the standoff. According to KIRO 7 News, police were able to recover the weapon involved in the assault.
Upon being taken into custody, the man was treated by medics at the scene and subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center for an evaluation. There have been no reports of additional injuries stemming from the standoff, and investigators are likely to unravel more details as the case progresses.
