A traffic pursuit in South Philadelphia led to an officer’s injury and a suspect being tased. The chase started around 11 a.m. on Tuesday when a man ran a red light. Police say the suspect had stolen the vehicle during a carjacking, according to FOX29.
The driver of a stolen red pickup truck attempted to evade the authorities by driving aggressively. The truck was maneuvered onto a sidewalk, narrowly missing pedestrians, and eventually crashed into a home railing on South 9th Street. Police officers surrounded the vehicle in an effort to stop it. The driver then reversed down the sidewalk. A civilian witness told NBC 10 Philadelphia, "We thought we were going to get hit for sure because I couldn’t go any faster without going through the stop sign so I had to get to the next stop sign to get to the side and he almost took the whole side of my truck off when he went by me."
The suspect, connected to a carjacking at 3900 Kensington Avenue, was arrested after officers broke the window of a stolen truck and used a taser. A nearby resident said, "I ran outside just in time to see a red truck and the police surrounding him. They broke the window to unlock the truck and pull him out." A female officer was injured and both she and the suspect were taken to the hospital. Details about the suspect’s identity and charges are not yet available, as reported by 6abc.
