Texas has claimed the top spot for job creation in the United States for the third consecutive year, a feat highlighted by Governor Greg Abbott as a testament to the state's economic vitality. The latest job numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), covering the period from December 2023 to December 2024, show that the Lone Star State added a total of 284,200 nonfarm jobs, outpacing all other states in the nation.
In a statement celebrating this accomplishment, Governor Abbott asserted, "Texas offers businesses the freedom to succeed and hardworking Texans the tools to prosper," citing the state's entrepreneurial spirit and focus on workforce education as key drivers of job growth, according to the Governor's Office press release. Notably, these job gains have led to record-breaking employment numbers across Texas, with more residents employed than ever before in the state's history.
Abbott reaffirmed the state's commitment to these economic principles, stating, "By unleashing the power of entrepreneurs and innovators and investing in education excellence and career training, we will remain the national leader in job creation and fuel America’s jobs engine." These remarks come as the Texas Legislature prepares to collaborate with the Governor this session to continue what Abbott calls the "blueprint for our future," aiming to fortify the state's economic position for all Texans, as reported by the Governor's Office.
