Early Saturday morning, a Thornton man was shot while checking on his brother's apartment during what turned out to be an active robbery. As reported by Denver7,  the 25-year-old who has not been named, was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The Thornton Police Department has confirmed that the suspect is still at large.

According to KDVR, police discovered the victim with a gunshot wound upon their arrival at the scene. He was recognized as the brother of the resident of the apartment, which adds a personal dimension to an already troubling incident. Officials have not released any description of the assailant.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were detailed further by 9News, who noted that before the shooting, the suspect managed to cover the camera inside the apartment. This attempt at concealing identity did not, however, stop the resident from reaching out to his brother, living in the same complex, to ask him to check on his unit. "When the resident's brother arrived at the unit, the suspect shot him before leaving the scene with valuable items," the police stated, as per 9News.
