Upper Arlington's City Council has finalized a future-thinking budget for the upcoming fiscal years that capitalizes on the City's strong economic standing. Detailed on the City of Upper Arlington's website, the 2025-26 budget, wrapped up last month, promises to boost the City's services and intends to pour investments into public infrastructure, parks, and community wellbeing, according to official budget highlights.
The local government touted a robust financial situation bolstered by sound fiscal policies and proactive economic development efforts, resulting in growing income tax revenues—anticipated to reach $46 million in 2024 and $48 million in 2025. These revenue jumps contribute to a general fund reserve projected to surpass its target, hitting 82% of the operating budget in 2025.
Making strategic moves with its financial overage, the Council focuses on areas such as community wellness, including adding a social worker to work with the Fire Division starting in 2025. Furthermore, plans are in place for a study to develop roundabout options at a key intersection, with potential construction eyed for 2029. They're also earmarking $2 million to assist parking solutions tied to redevelopment in the commercial districts.
A direct boon for residents will be seen in a reduction of Solid Waste fees come the January 2025 Utility Bill. This is part of a series of strategic investments that count the expansion of sidewalks and shared-use paths and a feasibility study for burying utilities along a prominent road corridor. Additionally, the City plans to fund water safety and swimming programs for youths starting in 2026.
Further budget considerations include bolstering infrastructure support with new equipment, responding to technological and security needs, and jumpstarting operations at the newly introduced Bob Crane Community Center. The public works vehicles and police cruisers will see new additions and a replacement for an aging fire safety training installation known as "Sparky's House."
The draft Municipal Program of Services outlines all plans and finer budget details, available for public perusal on the Finance section of the City of Upper Arlington’s website. The finalized document will be accessible to the community within the first quarter of 2025.
