As we usher in 2025, the Wake County Animal Center presents a chance to start anew, not just for us, but for the numerous animals seeking homes with their "New Year, New Pet!" adoption campaign. The initiative offers a reduction in adoption fees until January 17, as reported by WakeGov.com. With this campaign, dogs and cats that have been at the shelter for over two weeks are eligible to be adopted without a fee, and those newcomers under two weeks in the shelter have fees set at $25 for dogs and $5 for cats.
Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson underscored the value of adopting a pet in a statement obtained by WakeGov.com, "This year, consider a resolution that will have a real impact: adopting a pet." Adamson highlights the multifaceted benefits of pet adoption, from maintaining an active lifestyle to the comfort of unconditional love. Yet, as we celebrate the arrival of the new year, the center is faced with the reality of overcrowding, currently housing 97 dogs and 14 cats with another 28 dogs and 16 cats in foster care.
The process of taking a shelter animal into your life is made simpler by the dedicated staff at the Wake County Animal Center. They ensure that prospective pet owners find their ideal companions among the energetic dogs or tranquil cats waiting for a place to call home. Moreover, adult pets, with their personalities already developed, provide a clearer picture of how they will fit into someone's life. Each furry friend up for adoption comes spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with all the necessary vaccinations, as per the details shared on WakeGov.com.
Those interested in welcoming a new pet can browse the adoption gallery online or visit the facility located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue in Raleigh. The shelter's doors are open for adoption from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
