Waxahachie, a city known for its unique heritage and welcoming ambiance, has garnered recognition from the highest office in Texas for its efforts in tourism. Governor Greg Abbott extended his congratulations to the City of Waxahachie for becoming a certified community in the Tourism Friendly Texas program, administrated by Travel Texas.
"Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies," Governor Abbott stated, acknowledging the sector's role in job creation which supports one in 11 jobs across Texas. Visitors trekking to and within Texas contribute over $193.8 billion to the state's economic well-being, bolstering 1.3 million jobs, according to the Governor's announcement.
The accolade was also echoed by Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell who commended Waxahachie's efforts in providing a diverse pallet of visitor experiences, citing the city’s well-preserved historic districts, cultural landmarks like the 'Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas,' and local attractions such as the Hachie Hearts Trail. In a statement published by the Governor's office, Fennell praised the community's dedication to both its heritage and the tourism that sustains it.
Local leaders joined in celebrating this milestone, as Senator Brian Birdwell applauded the city for their commitment to increasing both tourism and knowledge about the area’s rich culture within Senate District 22. "I am proud to represent Waxahachie and have long believed it one of the best places to visit in Texas," Representative Brian Harrison told the Governor's press team. Mayor Billie Wallace added that Waxahachie relishes the lasting interactions cultivated during its many events that attract guests from both near and far.
The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program, open to local governments and nonprofit organizations serving as the vanguard for local tourism promotion, offers communities the chance to cultivate important relationships and obtain resources in tourism development.
