Roll up those creative sleeves, West Allis and West Milwaukee students—your city needs you to be the champions of fair housing. According to the City of West Allis, it's time for the annual 2025 Fair Housing Contest, and it's not just any contest, it's a call for young artists, writers, and budding filmmakers to step up and make their mark on an issue that hits close to home for many. The fierce battle against housing discrimination is still very much alive, and who better to lead the charge than the youth, right?
Students from West Allis and West Milwaukee are invited to use their creativity for a contest with the theme, "We Invite Everyone to Live Here!" There are different ways to participate: posters for grades K-12, essays for grades 4-12, and videos for grades 6-12. Everyone's voice matters, and this contest is about including everyone in our communities, no matter their background. Make sure to include your name, school, grade, and your parent or guardian’s contact information with your entry, as stated by the City of West Allis.
Here are the details: Posters should be no larger than 11x17 inches (about the size of a mini-fridge door). Essays should be no longer than two pages—short and to the point! Videos should be 2 to 5 minutes long, as per the City of West Allis.
Make sure to submit your work to the Housing Division by Friday, March 21 at 4 p.m. (no late entries, not even 4:01 p.m.). You can drop off your work at City Hall, Housing Division, c/o Susan Brandt. For digital submissions, check the City of West Allis website for more details.
