Whataburger, the Texas-based fast food chain, is expanding into North Carolina with new locations planned for 2025. According to WBTV, the chain, known for its large burgers and spicy ketchup, will open establishments in cities including Charlotte, Greensboro, and Hickory.
Whataburger is expanding into multiple cities in North Carolina, with a Gastonia location opening in late spring, followed by Charlotte and Hickory in early summer, and others arriving in the fall, according to V1019. The excitement surrounding these openings is evident, as seen with long lines at a previous Boiling Springs location the night before its opening, continuing for two days.
Whataburger's announcement highlighted its focus on digital tools, with future stores offering conveniences such as curbside ordering, in addition to the standard double drive-thrus. The locations will also operate 24/7 and serve breakfast from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.
Whataburger held a standing-room-only groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday for its Hickory location at 2060 U.S. Highway 70 SE, as reported by WCNC. The company also plans to open a store in Raleigh, further solidifying its investment in North Carolina's fast-food scene.
CEO Debbie Stroud highlighted the familial atmosphere as a key appeal for the chain, stating, "It’s an attractive part of the country. We’ve got flourishing growth and cities," in an interview with WBTV. She also discussed the company's careful expansion strategy, saying, "We get a lot of requests from around the country. We’re selective about the pace and where do we really want to go."
