
Wilmington law enforcement officials are currently probing into a police-involved shooting in the vicinity of 10th and Kirkwood Streets, as reported by Nixle. The incident unfolded on January 28th at around 1 p.m., involving members from the Wilmington Police Department's Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division, who were executing a narcotics investigation at the aforementioned location.
The confrontation began when officers tried to stop a 32-year-old male, who had been pegged as a suspect. According to the statement, the man attempted to evade police in his vehicle, taking it upon the sidewalk in his flight before an officer fired their department-issued weapon, hitting the suspect once. The police officer involved in the shooting was unharmed during the incident.
Post-incident, the officers provided immediate medical assistance until paramedics arrived on the scene. The injured suspect was then transported to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. Criminal charges are awaited as the investigation continues.
A trio of entities—the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice—are reviewing the shooting. Though the investigation is still in progress, additional details are expected to be made available when feasible.
