In response to the rising concerns over gun violence in Milwaukee County and across the state, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has taken a definite step by signing Executive Order #254, which establishes the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley welcomed the move, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to combat the violence plaguing the community, according to the Milwaukee County.
County Executive Crowley's statement, captured by Milwaukee County's official website, highlights the importance of this new statewide initiative, "Gun violence continues to devastate communities across Milwaukee County and beyond." and further Crowley appreciates the focussed attention to the issue by stating, "I’m deeply grateful to Governor Evers for making violence prevention a statewide priority."
By supporting the creation of the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention, Governor Evers and County Executive Crowley recognize the complex issues that affect communities. They are emphasizing that preventing violence goes beyond policing and requires building support networks and policies that promote justice and compassion, aiming for a future where safety is shared by all Wisconsinites.
The efforts of both the state and local leaders signify hope for a strategic approach to curtail violence, and as Crowley looks forward to working in tandem with the Evers Administration, the vision of a safer Milwaukee County, and a safer Wisconsin, appears within reach, albeit requiring the ceaseless dedication of communities and leaders alike.
