In an unfortunate display of animal neglect, a 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Grand Blanc Township after abandoning a puppy in a park's porta-potty. The young dog, now named Hank, was found inside the portable restroom at Creasy Bicentennial Park, having been left there for over two days. As reported by ABC12, Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye emphasized the seriousness of the act, reminding the community that animal neglect can lead to felony charges.
According to the details shared by WNEM, the woman cited her landlord’s prohibition of pitbull breeds as the reason for her action, claiming she did not know what else to do. Chief Renye described the condition where Hank was found: "Hank was freezing. Freezing cold. Feces, dog feces spread throughout the porta potty and pet urine. There was no water for Hank, just a small bowl of food.” The chief further stated, “Remember, you chose the animal. The animal did not choose you. We will be the voice for animals.”
The Grand Blanc community, however, has shown a more compassionate side in the aftermath of Hank's ordeal. The good Samaritan who discovered Hank is currently taking care of him. In a show of support, local businesses such as the Grand Blanc Veterinary Hospital have provided the first year of shots. At the same time, PetSmart and Pets Supplies Plus of Grand Blanc have supplied the puppy food, as noted in an appreciation post by the Grand Blanc Township Police Department on social media.
The woman responsible for abandoning Hank has yet to be arraigned, and her name remains undisclosed.
