On a routine traffic stop, authorities encountered more than a simple moving violation. According to Annapolis Police, Southern District Strategic Patrol Team officers stopped a white 2014 Jeep yesterday after 2 p.m. at Aris T. Allen Boulevard and Solomons Island Road. The events that unfolded led to the discovery of suspected drugs and a loaded stolen firearm in the possession of a man prohibited by law from having such a weapon.
The incident began when the driver, a 53-year-old woman, was spotted disposing of what appeared to be controlled dangerous substances (CDS). Upon further investigation, a back-seat passenger, later identified as 37-year-old Joseph Anthony Isaacs of Baltimore, brandished a knife when asked by officers to exit the vehicle. He complied with subsequent orders to put the knife down. Officers confiscated a .40 caliber Glock handgun that was stolen, as well as two magazines stocked with a total of 23 rounds of ammunition from Isaacs.
Additional findings included .9 grams of suspected crack cocaine, which the driver discarded during the interaction with law enforcement. While the female driver received a citation for her actions, Isaacs was taken into custody, facing charges for the weapon violation, considering his prohibited status from possessing firearms and the serious nature of the confiscated items. The precise charges against Isaacs were not specified in the press release.
