Today, Anne Arundel County is grappling with an ongoing cyber incident, prompting the closure of county buildings. In response to the breach of public services, the county has initiated a set of precautionary measures to safeguard its systems. Notably, these actions include restricting access to the internet and selecting systems to staunchly prevent further intrusion, as reported on the county's official website.
Telework-eligible workers should continue working remotely using Google or other online platforms. Emergency and essential staff should check with their supervisors before reporting to work at the usual times. County employees are asked to confirm with their leaders whether IT systems are available for their tasks.
Specific county-run facilities are facing varied statuses in the wake of the cyber incident. While Senior Activity Centers remain operational, services like the AARP tax preparation within these centers are suspended until further notice. Moreover, despite the shutdown of the Department of Aging and Disabilities’ two Customer Service Centers, a dedicated team continues to man the phones, offering support through two hotlines: 410-222-4257 for general information and assistance, and 410-222-3500 for Veteran Services Coordination Center, the county announcement detailed.
