Get ready to tap your toes and nod in rhythm to the sounds of big band and vocal jazz. Tonight, the New Town High School halls in Owings Mills will resonate with music during the All-County Jazz Concert. Open to all, the event showcases Baltimore County Public Schools' finest high school jazz talents, starting at 7:30 p.m., according to Baltimore Fishbowl.
NottinghamMD reported that the ensemble of 44 musicians from 12 high schools will assemble to perform under the guidance of two noteworthy music educators. The instrumentalists will be led by Anthony Townes, acclaimed director of bands for Northwestern High School in Prince George's County. Vocalists will find their melody through Heidi Ackerman, who fosters vocal harmony as the musical director of the Frederick Chorale and the founder of Charm City Sings.
Ackerman and Townes bring years of experience and honed talents to the table—or, in this case, the stage. Ackerman's conducting credentials include stints with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Soldiers' Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, among others. Townes has a history of leading bands throughout Maryland and has specifically conducted the Prince George’s County "All County Jazz Ensemble." His connection to the local jazz scene and experience with young musicians adds an inspiring layer to our performances.
The All-County Jazz Concert isn't one to miss for a night of skilled improvisation, spirited solos, and maybe a little swing. Grab a seat at the New Town High School auditorium - no ticket required - and bask in the talents of Baltimore County's up-and-coming jazz aficionados.
