A Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy has been fired after being arrested on charges including 'Unlawful Restraint' and 'Assault Bodily Injury.' The arrest followed an incident reported on Tuesday evening, where a family violence assault was alleged to have occurred involving two deputies. FOX San Antonio reported that the Sheriff's Office was notified around 6:45 p.m. of the altercation taking place on the 100 block of Hartford on the Southeast Side.
The conflict began earlier that day, when Deputy Andres Alvarado Garcia, 24, got into a disagreement over his phone. During the argument, the deputy allegedly grabbed the victim's fingers, resulting in injury and observable swelling. "Garcia allegedly blocked her exit and grabbed her," as stated by News 4 San Antonio, detailing how the victim tried to depart the residence with their child but was purportedly prevented from doing so by Garcia.
According to the subsequent investigation, the victim managed to leave the home after the altercation. San Antonio police later contacted Garcia to inform him of the investigation and subsequently took him into custody to provide a statement. It was at that point that warrants were issued for the charges against him.
Following his arrest, Garcia was dismissed from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. His firing was classified as a probationary dismissal due to his having not completed a full year of employment. An internal affairs investigation into the incident is currently underway, aiming to establish further details surrounding the encounter and Garcia's conduct.
