A Bronx man, Gabriel Narvaez, 46, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following a jury's verdict for his attack on a 12-year-old girl. He was convicted on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and second-degree assault, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office release. The attack occurred in March 2020 when Narvaez pistol-whipped, punched, kicked, and choked the victim at gunpoint in her building.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said in the same release, "The defendant followed the girl home and brutally attacked her at the front door of her family’s apartment. Despite her injuries, she fought back. Hopefully this sentence will bring a measure of justice to this brave child." The victim required hospitalization and psychiatric counseling for her recovery.

The attack occurred as the girl returned from school and was followed by Narvaez into her building on East 139th Street in Mott Haven. The assault was interrupted by neighbors, causing Narvaez to flee, leaving behind a surgical mask and a baseball cap, which contained DNA matching Narvaez. He was arrested later that year.

Senior Homicide Counsel Antonio Castro and Assistant District Attorney Tara Guarino led the prosecution, with oversight from Deputy Chief James Brennan and Chief Theresa Gottlieb. District Attorney Clark also acknowledged the contributions of BXDA Senior Investigators, the Video Technician, Forensic Science Unit specialist, and Crime Victims Bureau Advocate.

Justice Jeanette Rodriguez-Morick sentenced Narvaez to 20 years for robbery and burglary, along with a concurrent seven-year sentence for assault. He will also serve five years of post-release supervision after his prison term.
