Aaron Jarrett, 36, was extradited from Washington state to Michigan to face first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges. Officials say he was living in Clark County, Washington, at the time of his arrest and is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Chippewa County in May 2016, according to the Department of Attorney General.
Jarrett has been charged by the Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with four counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, each carrying a potential life sentence, and one count of Unlawful Imprisonment, which carries a possible 15-year sentence. His extradition was handled through Operation Survivor Justice, a joint effort involving Michigan prosecutors and the U.S. Marshals Service, funded by a $1 million state appropriation. He was arraigned before Judge Eric G. Blubaugh in the 91st District Court in Sault Ste. Marie, as reported by the Department of Attorney General.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel provided an update on Operation Survivor Justice, stating, “In the six months since we announced Operation Survivor Justice, my office has worked with county prosecutors across the state and the U.S. Marshals Service to extradite over a dozen people accused of horrific sexual assaults.” As part of this effort, Jarrett's bond is set at $500,000, with a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for March 13 at 9:30 a.m. and a Preliminary Exam on March 20 at 9:30 a.m., as stated by the Department of Attorney General.
