In an effort to address the needs of active duty military members and their families, the City of Jacksonville's Military Affairs & Veterans Department, coupled with Feeding Northeast Florida, have expanded their Food Farmacy program. Now operating at two locations, the initiative aims to provide nourishment and support to those serving the nation, easing some of the stresses military life can entail.
As announced in a recent Facebook post by the City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government, the program will now serve NAS Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport. Beginning tomorrow, active duty military personnel and their kin can head to 5391 Collins Rd. from 10 am to Noon to partake in the service provided by the program's first location.
Following closely, with its doors open to eligible participants, the second site located at 390 Mayport Rd. will welcome visitors on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm. Understanding the complexities military families often navigate, the Food Farmacy offers a range of fresh and nutritious foods, an important foundation for health, particularly in times of increased personal and financial challenge.
This resource aims to address the quiet pervasive issue of food insecurity among military families, a fact that stands in deep contrast to the abiding service they pledge to the country.
