A Clermont man, identified as Robert Bloebaum, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he was accused of brandishing a gun during a road rage altercation, authorities stated. This tense encounter unfolded near the streets of Shady Nook and Desoto, although the Clermont Police Department has not disclosed the exact timing of the incident.
The situation reportedly escalated when the victim came to a stop, and Bloebaum then proceeded to point a gun at them, according to a news release cited by ClickOrlando. In the aftermath, police were able to swiftly locate Bloebaum, who was found to still have a 9mm handgun in his possession. He was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail, where his bond was $5,000.
The escalation seems to have been triggered earlier on the road. The victim told the authorities that the confrontation began when a silver Toyota 4Runner, driven by Bloebaum, pulled in front of their vehicle, driving significantly below the speed limit, according to details provided by FOX 35 Orlando. When the victim attempted to pass the slower vehicle, Bloebaum reacted by following "aggressively" and "too closely," as described in the arrest report.
The incident began around 8 a.m. when the victim left for an auto parts store. It escalated at North Ridge Boulevard and Grand Highway, where a gun was allegedly pointed. No one was injured, but the case highlights how quickly road tensions can turn dangerous. Bloebaum now awaits legal proceedings.
