In Cleveland, snow and high pressure are set to define the weather mix for the coming days, as per the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland's latest forecast. Lake effect snow showers continue to pepper the region, particularly impacting areas from Lorain County to the snow belt east of Lake Erie, as a high-pressure system slides in to influence the weekend weather. According to NWS Cleveland, this morning's conditions saw additional snowfall stretching further south into northwest Pennsylvania.
As predicted by this morning's update, snow showers persist through late morning along the primary and secondary snow belts, defying earlier expectations of drier air curtailing this snow event. While Ohio is slated for minimal accumulation, northwest Pennsylvania could see up to an inch more, risking slick road conditions during the morning commute. The Winter Weather Advisory and Lake Effect Snow Warning for Erie County PA remained in effect until 10 AM today.
Transitioning into the weekend, the stubborn clouds and flurries should give way to clearer skies. "There will be peaks of sunshine possible on Saturday, especially across the western counties," the NWS notes, suggesting a slight warm-up with temps inching towards the upper 20s to low 30s. By Saturday night, the cold snap retains its grip as low temps once again drop into the teens, sending wind chills into the single digits.
Looking ahead to the start of next week, mild weather is forecasted to return with temperatures rising above freezing, heralding a mix of southwest winds and a weak low-pressure system that might stir up fresh precipitation. By Monday, "Another fast moving and weak low pressure system will track across the lower Great Lakes and Upper Ohio Valley Monday night with additional chance for rain showers," according to NWS Cleveland. Temperatures are expected to mount further, with highs in the 40s.
On the maritime front, with the region largely garmented in ice, Lake Erie waves should maintain a calm presence, with heights staying below one foot through Tuesday. Due to this extensive ice cover, the NWS has temporarily suspended Small Craft Advisory notices for particular nearshore waters, indicating ice-covered waters pack little punch for local mariners.
