Yesterday, a Columbus courtroom bore witness to the conclusion of a violent saga as 22-year-old Dillan Bush admitted guilt to a series of crimes, including attempted murder, stemming from three separate shootings. A sentencing by Judge Carl Aveni followed, tasking Bush with a prison stay between 21 to 22.5 years. According to Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor's official statements, the charges against Bush included firearm specifications, alongside drug and gun charges in two additional cases.
The catalyst for Bush’s violent crusade appears to be a personal vendetta, as reports indicate he sought retribution against Cole Parker, Jr., who had accidentally killed Bush's brother in 2019 and had been released from a juvenile detention facility in 2023. Bush engaged various individuals to target Parker’s home on more than one occasion violently. His plan, however, went awry, mistakenly inflicting terror on an unrelated residence, placing children at grave risk, and seriously wounding Parker’s father in another attack. In a separate incident, Bush was also implicated in a shooting aimed at a woman previously acquitted in the death of his girlfriend's best friend.
Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor praised the efforts of Columbus Police for their role in bringing Bush to justice, saying, "Columbus Police did an outstanding job investigating these complex and interconnected cases.” "I am thankful for the collaboration between police and the attorneys on this case. As a community, we must continue to address the epidemic of gun violence. This sentence brings justice for the victims and a step towards accountability," Favor highlighted. Attorneys Steven Schott and Thomas Stoltman spearheaded the successful prosecution.
