In Columbus, a man named Myshawn Butler has been sentenced to 25 to 30.5 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old and other violent crimes. Judge Karen Phipps imposed the sentence following Butler's guilty plea to Involuntary Manslaughter with a 3-year Firearm Specification and Aggravated Robbery in connection with the death of Melione Tucker.

The incident that led to Tucker’s death occurred on March 6, 2022, when Tucker succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head in the Hilltop neighborhood, according to a statement from the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. Forensic evidence linked Butler to a gun involved in an earlier shooting on February 14, 2022, bringing to light a history of violence, including an assault while incarcerated.

Additional charges against Butler stemmed from his involvement in a separate shooting at the Fine Fair Food Market and an assault at Franklin County Correctional Center II. In the latter incident, an inmate sustained injuries that required surgery, with Butler admitting over a recorded jail phone call to participating in the attack.

The trial for Butler's co-defendant, Terrance McNeely, will occur on March 5. Both were implicated in the events leading to Tucker's death after security footage and cell phone records placed them at the scene, as reported by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. Butler received a concurrent sentence of 8-12 years in these cases. Prosecuting attorney Ryan Pfefferle, who handled these cases against Butler, has yet to comment on the upcoming trial.
