Corpus Christi has been named a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas as part of a new state program. Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the city, highlighting tourism’s role in Texas' economy, noting it supports one in 11 jobs across Texas and generates over $193.8 billion in annual economic impact.

According to the Office of the Texas Governor release, the city completed a multi-step certification process to be recognized for using tourism as a key economic development strategy. Governor Abbott emphasized that travelers within Texas contribute over $193.8 billion annually to the economy and support 1.3 million jobs statewide, and encouraged other communities to apply for the certification to boost local tourism and job growth.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell praised Corpus Christi's commitment to creating memorable visitor experiences. He described the city as a key part of Gulf Coast tourism, combining family-friendly attractions with outdoor adventures and cultural vibrancy. "As a Tourism Friendly Texas Community, Corpus Christi is recognized for its commitment to creating unforgettable visitor experiences on and off the beach," Fennell said in the same release.

Local leaders such as Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and Mayor Paulette Guajardo also celebrated the achievement. “Congratulations to the City of Corpus Christi and Visit Corpus Christi for earning the designation as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community," said Senator Hinojosa in the Office of the Texas Governor release. Mayor Guajardo acknowledged the work of Visit Corpus Christi and its impact on the city’s tourism.

Visit Corpus Christi’s Chief Operating Officer Meredith Darden expressed pride in the designation, which highlights the commitment of our hospitality community to delivering exceptional experiences. The certification provides benefits like the development of tourism-driven relationships, educational opportunities, and access to state government support. More information about the program is available on the governor's economic development and tourism website.
