The DC Council unanimously expelled Councilmember Trayon White from his Ward 8 seat, citing video evidence and a legal report. This is the first expulsion since Home Rule began 50 years ago, as past cases usually ended in censure or resignation, according to the Council of the District of Columbia.
White was expelled from the Council by a majority vote due to undisclosed violations, with legal proceedings continuing separately. After a break, the Council approved the transfer of the RFK Stadium site from the National Park Service to the DC government, a plan in progress for decades. Future development of the site will require Council approval, as reported by the Council of the District of Columbia.
The Council extended a provision requiring judges to justify pretrial release for violent crime suspects until June 26, with a pending efficacy report. Virtual meeting allowances for government agencies and condominium associations were also extended. Due to the early stage of the Council period and a lighter schedule, the next meeting is on March 4. The session also covered the RFK Stadium site and confirmed Councilmember White’s removal, as stated by the Council of the District of Columbia.
