The Boulder County Sheriff's Office, alerted at 10:41 a.m. by rangers from Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks, swiftly launched an investigation into the matter. The body is thought to potentially belong to a University of Colorado student who had recently been reported missing, according to Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
Due to the body being discovered in a location that was challenging to quickly access, the ensuing operation to recover the woman involved technical rescue techniques, including rappelling. Boulder Canyon Drive had to be temporarily shut to traffic, not only to facilitate the investigation but also to ensure the safety of the responders who were working in conditions deemed hazardous because of the weather. Boulder County Sheriff's Office, among others, was there to assist in the case.
