A series of hazardous incidents involving large chunks of concrete and rocks being thrown at vehicles have alarmed drivers on downtown Los Angeles freeways, resulting in injuries and police investigations. One driver suffered injuries after a large piece of concrete crashed through their pickup truck's windshield on the 10 Freeway by Normandie Avenue shortly before midnight Thursday, as reported by KTLA. The driver was able to exit the freeway and was hospitalized; however, the condition remains undisclosed.
Another incident involved a rock thrown through a windshield on the 10 Freeway near the 110 Freeway. A driver was in a black Ford Ranger when the vehicle's windshield shattered due to the impact of the rock, as video from the scene confirmed. The driver's condition was not immediately available, but they were hospitalized following the event. The California Highway Patrol responded to the event around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, but no arrests have been made thus far, according to NBC Los Angeles. A third incident occurred on the 110 Freeway near Adams Boulevard; however, that driver was not seriously injured.
An additional report by ABC 7 indicates at least two cars were hit by rocks on the downtown LA freeways. The first driver was injured and hospitalized; the extent of the injuries is unknown. Similarly, CBS News Los Angeles reported that the California Highway Patrol is still investigating these incidents, which occurred close to each other on the 110 and 10 freeways. The second driver from the CBS report was fortunate; the rock did not penetrate the windshield and no injuries occurred.
Authorities are working to determine whether the concrete was deliberately thrown or accidentally came loose in the first instance, while the subsequent reports seem to suggest malicious intent. No information about any possible suspects has been released, and the California Highway Patrol continues to investigate. The public is urged to come forward with any information. Witnesses, particularly those who may have seen suspicious behavior on or near the overpasses, can play a crucial role in assisting law enforcement with these inquiries.
