
A fire that erupted in the early hours today has left one person without a home in Durham's Liberty Street area. ABC11 reports that emergency responses led to the blaze being contained to just one unit of a duplex, with smoke visible from the structure's roof shortly after firefighters arrived at around 2:30 a.m. The displaced individual is currently being assisted with temporary shelter arrangements.
While the fire was successfully controlled and no extension to neighboring homes occurred the individual's displacement underscores a moment of uncertainty and loss, the Durham Fire Department has begun an investigation into what caused the fire; as of now, the origins remain unknown. According to a statement acquired by CBS17, the fire at the 1100 block of Liberty Street was attended by firefighters, who saw flames coming from one side of the duplex upon their arrival.
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries, and no animals were involved, a piece of information echoed by the Durham Fire Department's news release and secondary sources. The person affected has found temporary solace at a nearby shelter, where they will remain until more permanent solutions can be arranged, WRAL confirmed.
