Residents of Mentor and visitors alike can look forward to a touch of whimsy this summer at Springbrook Gardens Park, where a fresh outdoor art installation is slated to charm the public. According to a recent post on the City of Mentor’s website, the park will host five storybook-themed benches, each intricately adorned by local Lake County artists. The benches will be showcased from June through August in an exhibition designed to marry functionality with creativity, offering park-goers a moment of visual delight and respite. More details about the project can be found on the City of Mentor’s official site.
With an eye toward fostering local talent, the Mentor Storybook Bench Project invites artists to submit their designs for consideration. The submission process involves completing a registration packet that includes the artist's proposed design concepts. However, those wishing to participate must act promptly – the deadline for applications is a firm 4:00 PM on March 17, 2025. The gala event, set for August 20, intends to celebrate the participating artists and introduce their creative works to the community.
This venture into public art is presented jointly by the City of Mentor and the Mentor Community Arts Commission, highlighting the city's commitment to cultural engagement and the arts. The selected benches, which will become part of the landscape at 6776 Heisley Road, promise to turn an ordinary seating area into an imaginative backdrop for passersby – transforming Springbrook Gardens Park into a gallery, albeit under the open sky.
Those with inquiries or needing additional information are encouraged to contact the Wildwood Cultural Center, the point of contact for the Storybook Bench Project. The Cultural Center can be contacted through a phone call at 440-974-5735 or via email at [email protected] for all related questions. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the August gala or plan a stroll through the park this summer to experience the artistic transformation.
