As the chilly front approaches, Holly Springs is bracing for a bout of winter weather that might leave residents skidding on icy roads and shoveling sidewalks. Officials are taking no chances with the expected snowfall and icy conditions, announcing a series of measures to ensure public safety and maintain essential services. According to a bulletin on the town's official website, preparations include adjustments to waste collection schedules and proactive treatments of roads and public walkways.
Commencing today, garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection in Holly Springs will undergo temporary changes due to the forecasted weather. Operating under the presumption that landfills will remain open, GFL, the town's waste management contractor, plans to delay garbage and recycling collection by one day for the remainder of the week, with residents being updated via the Town of Holly Springs webpage. Meanwhile, having finished its weekly round a day early, the Town's leaf vacuum trucks were quite busy on Tuesday.
For those who need to dispose of branches, leaves, and other forms of yard refuse, there are directives in place, as well. Yard waste cart collection will kick off on Friday for residents with Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday pick-up days; the Town is asking residents to hold off on putting yard waste carts by the road until Friday morning. The Town’s Yard Waste Convenience Center also anticipates closure on both today and tomorrow in response to the inclement weather.
Not taking any chances, Town crews diligently addressed icy conditions before they could cause trouble, treating sidewalks around key public facilities and parks. The crews, equipped for snow, have their plows at the ready to clear major thoroughfares and neighborhood streets alike, as soon as winter weather makes its presence felt. Their first objective, making sure routes remain passable for emergency vehicles and public safety, means that major roads will be the top priority before attention turns to the residential streets.
While Town offices and key facilities such as Town Hall, the Hunt Recreation Center, and the Cultural Center will close their doors today, the Public Works Department promises to maintain clear and safe passage on bridges and overpasses, which are notorious for freezing over quickly. "Public Works crews and vehicles are ready to plow and treat roads as needed," the Town of Holly Springs statement assures, encouraging drivers to exercise caution during this period of potentially hazardous travel conditions.
