Heads up, Jacksonville residents and visitors. There's a bit of a shuffle happening in the city's infrastructure this weekend. According to an announcement on the City of Jacksonville's official website, the utility bill drive-through at City Hall will be closed this Friday, February 21. The reason? Contractors are installing storm drains next to First Bank and City Hall to strengthen the town's defenses against nature's unpredictable forces.
And if you're planning on cruising down New Bridge Street or looking for a parking spot, you might want to rethink your strategy. Contractors are blocking off the stretch from Bayshore Blvd to the vicinity of First Bank for the entire weekend. Parking will be tight from First Bank all the way to Bayshore, so your best bet will be to scout alternate streets for a spot.
Infrastructure upgrades have always been a part of growing cities, and Jacksonville is no exception. The City's website recognizes the inconvenience but offers alternative ways to pay utility bills. Residents can pay in person at City Hall or call 910-938-5248 to pay over the phone.
Looking ahead to next week, the construction odyssey continues, with contractors setting their sights on laying down storm drains near the Speedway gas station. It's a continuation of the work they've been doing; crews have already wrapped up installing the first set of storm drains near City Hall earlier this week. "Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we continue to progress down New Bridge Street with these improvements," as per the City of Jacksonville's website.
