The Keller Fire Department has just gained a seasoned veteran in Deputy Chief Charlie Skaggs, as announced by Keller Public Safety on their social media. With a robust 25 years in fire service, 23 of which he served with the City of McKinney, Skaggs brings his considerable experience to bear in his new role.
One of the key ambitions for Skaggs is to push the Keller Fire Department to the forefront of cardiac resuscitation. His successful experience in this arena fuels his goal to rank Keller among the elite. "I'd like to see us be one of the top-tier, premier organizations [in that area]," he told Keller Public Safety. This ambition is paired with a leadership style that values hands-on involvement. "I think you have to know what they’re doing in the field," he said. "If you’re going to manage it, you have to know what you're managing, and you have to go out there and be a part of the team."
Skaggs is not just about firehouse policies and protocols; his record in McKinney shows a commitment to community engagement. In what became a record-setting endeavor, Skaggs was pivotal in orchestrating a Guinness World Record-breaking event for hands-only CPR training, with 12,128 participants—an indication of his knack for rallying people together to improve public safety and health.
His personal life reflects the same community spirit he carries into his work. A dedicated family man who has been married for 24 years, Skaggs enjoys spending his downtime engaging in his children's passions. He attends shows and sings karaoke with his 9-year-old daughter and supports his 17-year-old son at basketball games.
The community and the Keller Fire Department are eager to see what Deputy Chief Skaggs will accomplish. His dedication to innovation, community engagement, and family values provides a strong foundation for his tenure.
