The City of Davis has appointed Kelly Stachowicz as its interim city manager, set to take over on March 31, the City Council announced. Stachowicz, who has served as the assistant city manager since 2015, steps into the role following the departure of City Manager Mike Webb. A comprehensive search for a permanent city manager will commence, with the help of an executive search firm to be determined.
Detailed planning for a smooth transitional phase is reportedly underway, as Webb and Stachowicz join forces, which focuses on aligning the city's priorities and sustaining fluid communication, crucial for addressing the needs of the community during this period. As per a statement obtained by the City of Davis, further details will emerge once the recruitment process officially kicks off.
Mayor Bapu Vaitla lauded Stachowicz's expertise and wisdom concerning the city's operations. "Kelly is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in the functions and processes related to the City," Mayor Vaitla said in a news release. "I have no doubt that Kelly will be an excellent interim city manager while subsequent steps are taken to find the next city manager." With over thirty years of experience in both local and state government, this appointment sees a veteran policymaker stepping up.
Stachowicz expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her, aiming for the maintenance of consistent service to the community that she has been part of over two decades, commencing her journey initially as an economic development coordinator. "I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition and believe that my deep knowledge of Davis and the City organization will allow me to support the community and our dedicated staff over the next several months," Kelly Stachowicz told the City of Davis.
Stachowicz holds a master's degree in public administration from North Carolina State University and a bachelor's degree in government from Dartmouth College. She resides in Davis with her husband, Jay, a faculty member at UC Davis, and their labradoodle. She has also raised her two children within the Davis Joint Unified School District.
